A Contract with God

I did not really enjoy A Contract with God.  I sat down to read it and finished it about an hour later, a bit dissatisfied.  I stopped looking very hard at most of the pictures about a third of the way through because I wasn’t a huge fan of his style of drawing.  My personal thoughts on that were that it was a bit dark.  I understand the use of it and the message that it helps to convey with the stories he was writing for this novel.  That being said I couldn’t really enjoy the book.

It was a fast read, which is always nice and I felt like the images went along very well with the text.  I did like the way he drew his characters though, I thought they had a lot of emotion.  I enjoyed the expressions of a lot of them, especially the Super.  The detail was also phenomenal on much of the scenery which I liked.

I do understand the two paragraphs are contradictory a bit but to explain further I am saying that I didn’t like the dark style but I can still appreciate how well his characters were drawn and the time put into it.  I wish these would have been done in color though, I think it could have really added to some of the drawings.  The black and white made everything seem far too sad and dark.  I guess that may have been part of the point with these stories but I don’t like it and if I hadn’t been reading this for a class I would have probably put it right back on the shelf after openiPublish Postng it.
